Meta announces Oakley smart glasses

After months of rumors, Meta officially announced the next pair of smart glasses with Oakley. Smart glasses double the battery life of the Metaray-Ban and can capture 3K video. The model is based on Oakley’s HSTN (pronounced “How-Stuhn”) design and is called Meta’s “first product for athletes and fans.”

The limited edition Oakley Meta HSTN model with a gold accent is $499 and will be available for pre-order on July 11th.

The glasses come with a front camera, along with open-ear speakers and a microphone. You can use your glasses to listen to music, take photos, and call and receive them.

Glass also features Meta AI, allowing you to ask questions on the go, such as “Heymeta, how strong is the wind today?” Or “Hey meta, I’ll take the video.” Plus, you can ask Meta AI about what you’re seeing, or translate the language.

The Oakley Meta HSTN glasses last up to 8 hours in typical use and up to 19 hours in standby. You can also charge up to 50% in 20 minutes. Additionally, the glasses come with a charging case that can provide up to 48 hours of charging on the go.

The glasses come with six frame and lens colour combos. Warm gray with ruby ​​lens, polar black and black, brown smoke with polar deep sea lens, black with amethyst lens, clear gray lens, black with transparent lens, black with transparent lens. All of these are prescription compatible at an additional cost. Some pairs come with Oakley Prizm lens technology, allowing you to easily view it in a variety of lighting and weather conditions, allowing you to perform at peak times.

Oakley Meta HSTN will be available in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Australia, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark. Meta plans to launch them in Mexico, India and the United Arab Emirates later this year.

According to Meta, the new glasses are the latest chapter in a multi-year partnership with Esilol Luxottica, the parent company of Oakley, Ray-Bans and other eyewear brands. According to Essilorluxottica’s 2024 financial results, Metaray-Ban has sold over 2 million pairs so far.
