On Friday, the information reported that META is preparing to demolish existing AI organizations and reorganize them into four new groups. Four days later, the change became official in an internal memo, as reported by Bloomberg and the New York Times. The change was announced by AI founder Alexandr Wang, who joined the Meta as AI chief executive in June.
The new organization in the AI meta is called Meta Superintelligence Labs or MSL. The centerpiece is a new group called TBD Labs, run by Wang. The group will focus on basic models, such as the Llama series, which was released in April. The other three groups will focus on research, product integration and infrastructure, respectively.
Meta has put a lot of resources into revamping AI organizations in recent months in response to concerns that it is being overtaken by rivals such as Openai, Anthropic and Google Deepmind. According to a June report from Bloomberg, Mark Zuckerberg is personally involved in recruiting a new group.
