Meta will launch a Super PAC to support California candidates who support a light-touch approach to AI regulations, Politico reports. The news is that other Silicon Valley giants like Andreessen Horowitz and Openai’s Greg Brockman have pledged $100 million in the new Pro-Ai Super PAC.

According to Politico, Meta is called to pour tens of millions into new groups and mobilize economic transformation across California. Brian Rice, Meta’s vice president of public policy and head of the new PAC, argues that Sacramento’s regulatory environment could “silence innovation, thwart AI progress and put California’s technology leadership at risk.”

Earlier this year, Meta’s lobbying forces targeted the SB-53 bill for state senators, requiring AI companies to release safety and security protocols and issue reports when safety incidents occur. Last year it helped kill online safety laws for children, which were widely expected to pass.

The social media giant has already donated to various down-valet candidates from both parties. The new PAC demonstrates its intention to impact statewide elections, including the next governor race in 2026.
