Mexico City Mayor Clara Bulgada has pledged “no immunity” after the murders of Ximena Guzman and Jose Munoz.

Two top aides to the mayor of Mexico City were shot dead in the latest attacks on a Latin American country’s civil servant.

Ximena Guzman and advisor Jose Muñoz were shot dead on Tuesday in an early morning ambush near Moderna’s central neighborhood, city officials said.

Mexico City mayor Clara Bulgada has condemned the murder and pledged to continue her administration’s “relentless battle against anxiety.”

“We ensure that we investigate, clarify and assure that our commitment is our commitment,” Bulgada said at a press conference.

Mexico has one of the highest murder rates on the planet, mainly due to violence driven by drug cartels, but its capital is known for its relative safety compared to other countries.

In a report from Mexico City, Al Jazeera’s John Holman said that political killings are relatively rare in the capital, but there were 50 political murders in the first three months of the year.

“The reason for this is still unknown. But there are strong criminal groups in the capital fighting for control of territory and advantageous rackets,” Holman said.

“Politicians can get in the way like elsewhere in the country.”

The Mexican president swears justice

Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum, a Bulgada ally who previously served as mayor of the capital, expressed his sadness in the murders, saying that her government will ensure that “justice will be served.”

“We express solidarity and support for the families of these two individuals who have worked in our movement for a long time,” Sinbaum said.

“We know them, we stand with their family, and we give her [Brugada] All the support the city needs from the Mexican government. ”

In 2020, Mexico City security chief Omar Garcia Halfucci survived an ambush by a gunman who killed two bodyguards and a bystander.
