Ann Arbor, Michigan (AP) – State Prosecutor Felony charges have been dropped Monday against seven people accused of trespassing and resisting police a year ago. Disbanding from the pro-Palestinian camp at the University of Michigan.

Attorney General Dana Nessel said she believes the incident is strong, but suggested that her office was exhausted by criticism and other factors. She said the Washtenaw County judge has yet to decide whether to send the case to court despite multiple hearings.

“The absurd allegations without a base of bias only promoted this disparity,” Democrat Nessel said.

The camp at DIAG, a traditional site for protests on campus, was cleared by police a month later in May 2024. The university said the camp has been a threat to safety due to overloaded power and open flames.

Defence counsel Amir McCled said Nessel was trying to turn freedom of speech into a crime.

“We sent a clear message to both Lansing and Washington that people still dominate and that public pressure would force them to support the rule of law,” McClad said Monday.

Protesters had requested that school donations cease investment in businesses with ties to Israel. The university claimed there was no direct investment. Less than $15 million It is deployed with funds that could include Israeli companies.
