Nintendo is increasing the prices of the original Nintendo Switch game console, the company announced Friday. The price rise, which took effect on August 3rd, is due to “market conditions,” Nintendo says.
The company’s reference to “market conditions” could suggest a tariff on President Donald Trump.
Affected products include Nintendo Switch – OLED models, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and some Nintendo Switch accessories. Other Nintendo products, including certain Nintendo Switch 2 accessories, including Select Amiibo and Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo, also have seen price increases.
It is not yet clear what will happen with the new prices. Currently, the original Nintendo Switch is on sale for $299.99, while the OLED model costs $349.99.
Nintendo said it has not ruled out future price hikes for the Nintendo Switch 2. This is for sale for $450.
“Nintendo Switch 2 system pricing, physical and digital Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 games, and Nintendo Switch Online memberships are unchanged at this time,” Nintendo wrote in a post in the announcement. “However, please note that price adjustments may be necessary in the future.”
Earlier on Friday, Nintendo reported first quarter revenues, sharing that Switch 2 console sales have reached 5.82 million units since its June 5 release.
Nintendo has moved most of its production to Vietnam in the past to avoid tariffs. However, Trump announced this week a mutual tariff change that spans Vietnam.
