North Korean leader Kim Jong oversaw missile training in the yellow sea this week, state media reported.
North Korea has conducted a test launch of a strategic cruise missile and sent a message to the “enemy” about its ability to counterattack, state media said.
North Korean leader Kim Jong made the main side of the Yellow Sea missile training on Wednesday, South Korea Central News Agency (KCNA) said on Friday.
The South Korean chairman confirmed in a statement later that day that he detected and tracked the launch.
Pyongyang has run drills to warn him of “a serious violation of the South Korean Democratic Republic’s security environment, cultivating a conflict environment, and escalating enemies,” and “are prepared for various nuclear operations,” North Korean news agency said.
The missile “crashes against the target” precisely after 130 minutes of flight along a 1,587km (986 miles) long trajectory, KCNA said.
“Kim Jong Eun, who expressed satisfaction with the results of the launch drill, said it was a responsible exercise in DPRK’s war deterrence, and that it continuously tested the reliability and operation of the components of nuclear deterrence and demonstrated their strength,” the official mouthpiece said.
The drill was the fourth missile launch this year, and the second time since President Donald Trump took office in January.
Trump, who held three summits with Kim during the first administration to fail to disarmament in Pyongyang, has expressed his intention to reach out to North Korean leaders in the second term.
“I got along well with him,” Trump told Fox News host Sean Hannity in an interview in January.
“He’s not a religious fanatic. He happens to be a smart guy.”
