To comply with US restrictions on exporting advanced semiconductor technologies to China, chip makers Nvidia and AMD reported that they will soon begin selling new GPUs made for AI workloads in China, citing supply chain sources.

Nvidia plans to sell AI GPUs with the code name “B20” removed, but AMD is looking to target AI workload needs with the new Radeon AI Pro R9700 Workstation GPU.

Earlier this week, Reuters reported that Nvidia is working on a new budget AI chip built on China’s Blackwell architecture, with prices ranging from $6,500 to $8,000. In comparison, the company sells H20 GPUs for $10,000 to $12,000 each.

NVIDIA said on Wednesday it had charged $4.5 billion in the first quarter due to licensing requirements that affect its ability to sell H20 AI chips to Chinese companies, and restrictions prevented it from shipping $2.5 billion in H20 chips in the quarter. We expect licensing requirements will hit the company’s revenues by $8 billion in the second quarter.
