Openai pulls promotional material around Jony Ive deals by court order

Openai pulled a controversial video from its website and YouTube page that promotes friendship between CEO Sam Altman and legendary Apple designer Jony Ive (a $6.5 billion deal to win Openai’s Ive and Altman’s device startup IO).

Does that suggest something is wrong about the acquisition or in the planning to lead the design work at Openai? According to Mark Garman of Bloomberg, “The deal is going well and hasn’t dissolved or something like that.” Instead, he said the judge issued an order suppressing the name of the IO and forced the company to pull out all material that used it.

Openai later confirmed that this is true and said, “This page is temporarily down because of a court order following a trademark complaint from IYO regarding the use of the name “io.” We disagree with the complaint and review the options. ”

The company said this would not affect its transactions with IO.

The IYO in question emerged from the Alphabet X “Moonshot Factory”, and its first announced product is a set of generative AI-powered earphones. Previous reports from the Bloomberg Act pointed out that IYO filed a trademark lawsuit against Openai, and the judge suggests that Openai’s promotional video is already open to the company’s debate that it could already cause consumer confusion.

For at least for now, the video remains visible in X.

This post was updated with a confirmation from Openai.
