Francis was admitted to Gemeri Hospital in Rome on February 14th after experiencing difficulty breathing.

Pope Francis’ health has deteriorated over the past 24 hours, the Vatican said, adding that the bishop suffered “a prolonged asthma-like respiratory crisis” and needed a blood transfusion.

“This morning, Pope Francis presented a long-term asthma-respiratory crisis, which also required the application of high-flow oxygen,” the Vatican said on Saturday.

“My Holy Father is wary and feels worse than yesterday, but I spent the day in my chair,” he added.

Francis was admitted to Gemeri Hospital in Rome on February 14th after experiencing difficulty breathing for several days. He has since been diagnosed with dual pneumonia.

The Pope’s doctor told a press conference Friday that there was no immediate risk in his life, but he “is not out of danger.”

However, on Saturday, the Vatican said “the holy father’s condition remains critical,” adding that doctors must administer “high flow” of oxygen “high flow” due to the respiratory crisis. . He also said that blood transfusions are necessary as tests showed a low platelet count associated with anemia.

Double pneumonia is a serious infection that can inflam and scar both lungs, making it difficult to breathe.

Francis continues to work while in hospital, including the appointment of a bishop.

But early on Saturday, the Vatican announced that the Pope would not be open to lead prayers with pilgrims on Sunday.

Canon Act does not provide any provision as to what to do if the Pope is neutralised.

Pope Benedict XVI resigned in February 2013 due to poor health, but Francis shows no signs of resignation.
