Like most people in New York, Rama Duwaj woke up early wearing Knicks gear to celebrate the team’s historic championship (first in 53 years) at a “Keys to the City” ceremony in front of City Hall Plaza on Thursday.

As with all her public outings, Dowaj took it upon herself to elevate her fashion level, styling an upcycled dress by custom couturier Claire Sullivan. This unique piece features three Knicks NBA Finals shirts sewn together into one article, with the blue and orange shirts forming a miniskirt draped along the hem trim. The top white T-shirt is tied at the chest and draped over the right shoulder. A closer look at his back revealed a thin tie wrapped around his back, tightening the fabric above his waist.

Let’s take a closer look at Rama Dhwaj’s costume.

Dhwaj paired the long top with a black bubble skirt, orange pompom earrings, ankle socks and Nike Air Rifts. Debuting in 1996, the Rift Trainer was the first time the brand introduced a split-toe design with a Swoosh. This detail, also known as the “tabi toe”, was inspired by Kenya’s Great Rift Valley fault line. Nike debuted a new take on the shoe in February as part of its ongoing partnership with Skims. From a distance, it was difficult to tell whether Duwaj was wearing the original Nike or a collaborative shoe.
Regardless, the ensemble, from top to bottom, was exactly what a fashionable first lady would wear to a quasi-sporting event. Her hair was also in keeping with her signature aesthetic, styled in what is now known as the “Rama” style. According to celebrity stylist Antonio Verotta, Rama is a “modern precision bob” or, in other words, a rustic “vixie.” “This shape is tailored with a soft gradient, so it frames your face without having to create thick layers all over the crown,” he previously told WWD.

Next to her, her husband, Mayor Zoran Mamdani, injected the spirit of the Knicks into his own style by layering a Jalen Brunson jersey over a white collared shirt and matching an orange speckled tie. Over it, he wore a navy blue suit jacket with a Knicks pin emblazoned on the right lapel.
