The Portuguese captain wants to show Hozilund and Denmark his celebration when both sides meet at the international league quarters.
Cristiano Ronaldo responded to the imitation of Rasmus Hozilund in his famous “Shu” celebration, and said he was honored to see the Danish striker copy it in a clash of the UEFA Nations League.
“For me, that wasn’t an issue,” Ronaldo said Saturday before their second game of quarterfinals.
“I knew this wasn’t because he didn’t respect me.
“I’m smart enough to understand that he and other sports around the world are also celebrating my celebrations,” the Portuguese star told reporters before Sunday’s clash.
“For me, that’s an honor.
“but [on Sunday] I hope he can see my celebration. It’s fine for me. If I score, that’s good for me, but if I didn’t score and someone else scored, that’s fine for me. ”
Hozilund scored a winning goal against Portugal in the first leg of the quarterfinals on Thursday, jumping into the air for his own version of the “SIU” celebration, but he said he hadn’t made fun of his “idol.”
The Manchester United forward’s 78-minute strike brought Denmark to a 1-0 win over Ronaldo’s Portugal, and the 40-year-old veteran striker completely frozen on the other side on an annoying night.
“I’m the best soccer player in the world, my idol, and scored [match] Winner, it didn’t get better,” Hosilund told TV2 in Denmark.
“It wasn’t about laughing at him or anything. I’ve always said he was very important to me and my soccer career.
“The scores are huge against him and Portugal. I went to see him in 2009. There he scored from a free kick. I’ve been a fan ever since.”
“There’s no need to be nervous.”
Meanwhile, Ronaldo admitted that the pressure surrounding Portugal is trying to overturn the deficit.
The Al-Nassr striker was extremely critical of his team’s performance in Copenhagen’s first leg, but he is confident that the home crowd can play a key role in turning the tie around.
“The air is even more tense. I’m not hiding it. We’re in a tense moment because we need to win, but that’s the beautiful thing about football,” Ronaldo told reporters on Saturday.
“Tomorrow I’m calling on my fans to stay with us. Give them their strength as we try our best.
“I lost a game in 90 minutes, but I’ve never lost the first leg. There are games like that, there are bad days. I didn’t play on other days, the team didn’t play at all, but that’s part of life.
“I want to leave Albaredo Stadium tomorrow with my head high. If I score, I’ll be happy, but if I don’t score, I’ll score someone else. That’s for Portugal to win.”
Ronaldo denied the team’s lack of attitude and was convinced that he could unite and make progress in the semi-finals.
“There’s always an attitude in the national team. Of course there’s a technical aspect, but there was a lack of other things. It’s football, you can’t always play well,” he said.
“There’s no need to be nervous, the past is the past. I know there are a lot of people who want to lose to us, but I’m sure if there are people who are united and have the energy, we’ll get great results tomorrow.
“We lost the game and played badly, but tomorrow we have a second leg. Stay calm. Think positively and I think things will go well.”
