As Russian missiles raided a hotel in the central Ukrainian city of Krivii Li, killing four people and wounding 31 people, and the fatal attack on Ukraine escalates, rescuers were still searching for someone trapped in the tile rub, officials said.
According to Ole Kipper, governor of Odesa, a 77-year-old man was killed by sh shotgun in a village outside Odesa. The attacks in the Odesa region also undermined “critical infrastructure” and resulted in a halt of electricity, water and heat on Black Sea territory, local authorities said. Kherson governor Oleksandr Prokudin said the 55-year-old was killed in another attack in Kherson City. Russian forces have attacked energy facilities in the Odesa region of southern Ukraine, the regional energy company DTEK said. This is the fourth attack on the local energy infrastructure within two weeks, according to the company’s statement. The Ukrainian air force said it had fired down 115 of 181 Russian drones that targeted Ukraine in a one-night attack. According to a military statement, an additional 55 drones were lost and the target was not reached. The fate of the remaining 11 drones has not been revealed. Russian media reported that Kremlin forces ruled the village of Purivirne in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine. The Russian commission on investigation said British citizen Scott Lys Anderson was sentenced to 19 years in prison after acting as a mercian when he was captured while fighting for Ukraine. Kremlin missiles struck the building, killing two people and wounding 28 more people in central Ukraine’s city of Krivii Lee, region governor Serei Raisac said.
Politics and diplomacy
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Ukrainian President Voldy Zelensky’s letter to US President Donald Trump was a “general positive” sign that he was expressing his willingness to negotiate. However, Peskov questioned the practicality of the negotiations, citing a 2022 executive order banning negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Putin announced that Russia has completed issuing Russian passports to Ukrainian citizens in Moscow-controlled territory in Luhansk, Donetsk, Harson and Zaporidia regions. Home Minister Bardimir Korokortsev said 3.5 million people have been naturalized. Kyiv branded this as an illegal attempt to scrub the realm of Ukrainian identity. The Financial Times reported that the US has blocked sharing intelligence news with Kyiv. CIA director John Ratcliffe told the Fox Business Network that Trump ordered the suspension of intelligence reporting cooperation, but thought the suspension would “leave” and that we would “continue working shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine.” White House national security adviser Mike Waltz told Fox News that if peace talks are sorted out and “confidence building measures” are implemented, Trump may “rethink a suspension of aid to Ukraine.” In a post on X, Zelenskyy said that enduring peace in Ukraine is “fully achievable” and that there are efforts coordinated under US leadership. Zelenskyy Chief of Staff Andriy Yermak said he and Waltz were speaking on the phone to discuss the next steps towards peace in Ukraine, exchange opinions on security and position alignment, and are planning a meeting for US and Ukrainian officials in the near future. French President Emmanuel Macron said in his national speech that European troops could be sent to Kiev if the peace agreement was signed “to ensure full respect,” not to fight. He also said that the European Chief of Staff will meet next week in Paris to discuss Ukraine’s post-peace support. In response, the Kremlin denounced what Russia called a highly confrontational speech by Macron, which Russia called a threat to Europe, and said Paris would consider putting other countries under nuclear protection. The Netherlands pledged $3.8 billion to support Ukraine in 2026, Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schuf added that the funds could be used in 2025 if necessary.
