The Russian Ministry of Defense said it had reclaimed the village of Lebedevka in the western region of Kursk and robbed the village of Novenke across the border in Ukraine’s Smie region.
Russian special forces were raiding the town of Suda as part of a major attack to expel Ukrainian units using gas pipelines, a Russian war blogger said.
The Ukrainian drone struck industrial facilities overnight in Russia’s Volga River region, about 1,300 km (800 miles) from the Ukrainian border, the regional governor said on Sunday. There were no casualties on the strike. This was one of the deepest things to Russia by Ukrainian drones.
Russian authorities said the air defense units destroyed 88 Ukrainian drones overnight due to no reported injuries or other damages. The Ministry of Defense said 52 drones were destroyed in the border area of Belgorod, 13 in the Riftsk area and 9 in the Rostov area. Ukraine said the attacks in the war were aimed at destroying infrastructure that exerts the key to Moscow’s war efforts and responding to the ongoing bombing of Ukraine.
Ukrainian air defenses have fired 73 of the 119 drones launched by Russia in the overnight attack, the Air Force said.
Politics and diplomacy
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine is “fully committed” to having a constructive dialogue with US representatives in Saudi Arabia on Monday.
Trump envoy Steve Witkov said he is in talks with Ukraine for a framework contract to end the three-year war with Russia.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said he would consider taking part in Ukraine’s peacekeeping mission, but emphasized that it was too early for the development.
British Prime Minister Kiel Starmer spoke to Albanese over the phone and welcomed his commitment to consider contributing to Ukraine’s “rejoiced coalition,” a Downing Street spokesperson said.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tass said the reconciliation with Russia has led to more tragedy in Ukraine.
