This is where things stand on Sunday, April 6th:
Fineting
Three women were injured and several fires broke out in a Russian air force attack on the southern Ukrainian region of Mykolav, Ukrainian officials said. The attack also hurt several homes, Mykolaiv Gognelory Vitaliy Kim posted on the Telegram messaging app. Russia also launched an air force attack on Ukrainian capital Kiev overnight, with city air defense forces trying to repel the attack, officials said. The latest strike comes a day after the Ukrainian Air Force reported that it had shot down 51 of the 92 drones launched domestically by the Russian troops on Saturday. The Russian Ministry of Defense has accused Ukraine of increasing attacks on Russia’s energy infrastructure, including the regions of Briansk, Belgorod, Smolensk, Rippett and Bolognezh, despite the moratorium that hit the US. Ukraine dismissed the claim as “fake.” The Ukrainian drones attacked explosive production facilities in Russia’s Samara region, causing multiple explosions and fires, Reuters reported, citing sources of Ukrainian security services.
Politics and diplomacy
Ukrainian President Voldimia Zelenkie has expressed disappointment at the US embassy’s “weak response” to the Russian missile strike that killed 18 people, including nine children, in his hometown of Kliviy Lee. He said the US did not mention Russia for condemning the attack. After meeting with the British and French chiefs of Kyiv, Zelenskyy welcomed “tangible progress” and discussed the potential deployment of multinational peacekeeping forces into Ukraine.
