These are important events on the 1,142nd day of the Russian Ukrainian War.

This is where things stand on Friday, April 11th.

Fineting

Russia said its aviation defense system destroyed 48 Ukrainian drones overnight and occurred early in Crimea, annexed by Bryansk, Kursk, Karga, Belgorod, Moscow, Oryor regions and Russia. The Russian Ministry of Defense said its forces captured the border village of Zlavka in the Smie region of Ukraine. Ukrainian authorities recorded 145 Russian drones in airspace in the overnight attack, of which 85 said 49 were “lost” due to electronic warfare measures. Local authorities said at least 13 people were injured in the Russian drone attacks in the Ukrainian capital Kiev and the Mikolife city of southern Mykolife. The drone attack also damaged nine apartment blocks, dozens of garages and management buildings. At least one person has been killed and three have been injured in a Russian missile strike against the city of Dnipro in Ukraine. The attack destroyed civilian infrastructure and caused a major fire, said area governor Serhiy Lysak. Ukrainian officials said a person was killed in another drone strike at the construction of a home in Zhitmir city west of Kiev. Footage from a Ukrainian surveillance drone obtained by the Associated Press showed four Ukrainian prisoners being shot dead by soldiers wearing the Russian unified mark. A short video of the Kremlin video posted by a Russian military blogger showed Ukrainian soldiers lying on the ground where they were alive. According to the video caption, “The enemy decided not to be killed, and came out with his hands raised.” The video did not show their execution.

Ceasefire

Moscow’s Defense Ministry accused them of carrying out 11 attacks on Russia’s energy infrastructure over the past 24 hours.

Politics and diplomacy

Russia has released Ksenia Karelina, a Russian American ballet dancer who was sentenced to 12 years in prison for a prison exchange with the United States, a Reuters report cites Karelina’s lawyer. Karelina was found guilty by a Russian court of treason for donating $52 to a US charity supporting Ukraine. She was exchanged for Arthur Petrov, a German Russian citizen who was arrested in 2023. China’s Foreign Ministry called for a “cool” view on its role in the Ukrainian crisis after Ukrainian President Voldymi Zelensky had information about the 155 Chinese citizens fighting alongside the Ukrainian military. A spokesman for the ministry warned Ukraine against making “irresponsible” remarks about the existence of Chinese fighter jets. President Zelensky accused Russia of working systematically in China and recruiting fighter jets for the war in Ukraine. He also said, “Everything that is necessary to ensure that Russia does not have the same opportunity to extend and expand the war.” The US and Russia held talks in Istanbul, Torkiye, about normalizing diplomatic relations between the two countries. The talks were led by Russia’s Washington, new ambassador to Alexander Dersiev, and Secretary of State Sonata Coulter. Defense ministers from around 30 countries, part of the “Union of Williams,” met in Brussels to discuss the “power of security” of Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire between Kiev and Moscow. However, important questions about its mission and support from the US remained unanswered. The US State Department said U.S. ambassador to Ukrainian Ukrainian Bridget Brink has resigned after three years of service.
