At least four people were killed and 16 people were injured, including three children after Russian troops struck Kiev and surrounding areas in a “large night attack.” The strike also damaged the residence and other buildings, officials said. At least four people have been reportedly killed and five injured in the western Kumelnitsky region of Ukraine, according to Sergie Tylin, deputy chief of the regional junta. The Russian attack caused Moscow to unleash a massive overnight air attack across the country, killing three children in the Zhtmir region of northwestern Ukraine, emergency services said. The victims were 8, 12 and 17, adding that 10 other people were injured. Emergency services also said a man was killed when a residential building was attacked by a Mikolife drone in southern Ukraine. At least three people were injured in northeastern Ukraine, Mayor Ikhor Telekov said Russian drones had hit three urban districts. Smash windows in blocks in high-rise apartments. Moscow mayor Sergei Sobianin said 12 drones flying towards the Russian capital had been intercepted. Restrictions have been imposed on at least four airports, including the main hub Sheremetyevo, according to Rosaviatzia, Russia’s Civil Aviation Authority. Russian forces said on Saturday that Ukraine had targeted it with at least 788 drones and missiles from Tuesday. The Russian Ministry of Defense has announced that slowly advancing troops on the Eastern Front have acquired two settlements, the Donetsk region and the Smie region of northern Ukraine.

Politics and diplomacy

Ukrainian President Voldimia Zelensky said the Russian attacks showed Moscow “extending the war” and repeated calls for strengthened sanctions. The Russian Ministry of Defense has announced that it will release another 307 Ukrainian prisoners in exchange for the many Russian soldiers cared for in Belarus before returning to Russia. Russia has announced that once the “1,000-1,000-1,000-1,000” exchange between the two is complete, they will send the terms of the settlement to Ukraine. At least two prisoner exchanges took place between the two countries on Friday and Saturday. Ukraine has announced that it has begun an investigation into alleged enforcement of 268 Ukrainian prisoners by Russian forces since the invasion in February 2022.
