Russia’s governor Bryansk, Alexander Bogomaz, said seven people were killed and 30 were injured in derailing a train in the area adjacent to Ukraine. In a Telegram post, the Moscow Railway said the derailment and the collapse of the bridge were the result of “illegal interference in transport operations.” The Ukrainian army did not immediately comment. The Russian attack killed a child and injured another person in the Ukrainian village of Drinka in Zaporidia, the local governor said. The Ukrainian Air Force said Russian forces fired an estimated 109 drones and five missiles across Ukraine on Friday and overnight. The Ukrainian army added that it had destroyed 42 drones. Russian troops said they had captured Bodrahi in the Ukrainian village of Novopiru in the Smie and Donetsk regions. The announcement said Russia has gathered around 50,000 troops in the area after Ukraine ordered the evacuation of 11 more villages in the Smie region.

Ukrainian President Voldymir Zelenki said Russia “doesn’t look very serious” and “were given no clear information” about what it plans to achieve at Turkier’s peace conference in Istanbul next week. He said Russia would send a delegation led by former Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky, but he did not comment on whether Ukraine would take part in the new round of negotiations. The Chinese Embassy in Singapore criticized French President Emmanuel Macron for comparing Ukraine’s defense with the need to protect Taiwan from Chinese invasion, saying “the two are essentially different and not quite comparable.” According to a German government spokesman, Russia’s war with Ukraine will be on the top of the agenda when German Friedrich Merz met with US President Donald Trump at the White House on Thursday. Swedish Prime Minister Wolf Christerson said new rules for regulating foreign ships across Swedish territorial waters from July 1st are among “increasing concerns over incidents in the Baltic Sea” as Russia’s so-called shadow fleet continues to encounter problems.
