Samsung launches a new smartwatch, the Galaxy Watch 9. We haven’t seen it yet, but the Samsung Health app is already gearing up for its arrival.
The South Korean tech giant announced in a blog post on Thursday that Samsung Health will receive an update starting June 8 that “introduces key health features included in the next Galaxy Watch.” Of course, we haven’t seen the watch in the flesh yet (it’s expected to be similar to the Galaxy Watch 8), but all available information suggests it will be unveiled in late July at the Galaxy Unpacked event in London.
A price hike for Samsung’s mobile phones may be on the horizon. Thank you, Ramageddon.

This is the vital screen.

Similar to the recent Google Health app update, AI is at the heart of the new Samsung Health Portal.
Mashable Trend Report
“Samsung Health is evolving to connect health data measured by Galaxy Watch with AI-based insights, making it easier and more intuitive for users to understand their health status,” Hon Pak, Samsung senior vice president and head of the digital health team, said in a blog post. “Samsung Electronics continues to expand proactive and personalized health management experiences based on the connected Galaxy ecosystem and digital health innovations.”
Anyway, when it comes to the particular Samsung Health update, it brings a complete UI overhaul and some significant new features that hint at what we can expect from the Galaxy Watch 9.
Samsung has “streamlined” the app’s layout into five main components (their words): Sleep, Activity, Nutrition, Mindfulness, and Vitals. The Vitals display is new and looks at several metrics while you sleep, including your heart rate, skin temperature, and blood oxygen, and compares them to your baseline to identify potential problems.
There’s also a new Heart Health Score, which combines several heart-related metrics into one easy-to-understand score. The new app also includes a daily cardio load measurement and a fitness index that exists to determine the effectiveness of your workouts. All in all, this seems like a pretty substantial update for a brand new smartwatch. More details will probably be revealed at the rumored Galaxy Unpacked event in late July.
