Texas AG sues Roblox for prioritizing ‘pixel pedophiles’ over child safety

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced late Thursday that he will sue online gaming platform Roblox over child safety concerns, accusing the company of “misleading parents about the dangers of its platform.”

Paxton claimed in a statement that Roblox is choosing to prioritize “pixel pedophiles” and profits over the safety of children, calling the platform a “hotbed for predators.”

“We cannot allow platforms like Roblox to continue to serve as a digital playground for predators,” Paxton said. “Roblox must do more to protect children from the sick, twisted freaks hiding behind screens. Companies that enable child abuse will face the full and unforgiving force of the law.”

Paxton’s lawsuit follows similar lawsuits by attorneys general in Louisiana and Kentucky, as well as multiple lawsuits against Roblox in California, Texas, and Pennsylvania. The company has been repeatedly criticized for not taking appropriate child safety measures and putting minors at risk, including grooming, explicit content, and violent or abusive content.

In light of these incidents and investigations, governments around the world are introducing increasingly strict laws and regulations that require social platforms to verify the age of their users, such as the UK’s Online Safety Act and Mississippi’s Age Guarantee Act. Other states are considering similar laws, including Arizona, Wyoming, South Dakota and Virginia.

The company has responded by adding a number of safety features, including an age estimation system that scans users’ selfies and analyzes their facial features to estimate their age. Standardized content and maturity labels. AI systems that detect early warning signs that children are at risk. Safeguards for youth. content control etc. The company also offers parental controls, tools to limit communication, and technology to detect when large numbers of users are breaking the rules.

As of September 30, 2025, Roblox had 151.5 million daily active users.

Roblox said it has implemented “industry-leading protocols” to protect users and combat malicious activity, and said it was “disappointed” by the lawsuit. “We are disappointed that the AG has chosen to file a lawsuit based on misrepresentations and sensational claims, rather than working with Roblox to find real solutions to industry-wide challenges,” a company spokesperson said in an emailed statement.

“Roblox is deeply committed to child safety. Our policies are intentionally stricter than many other platforms. We prohibit the sharing of images and videos in chat, use filters designed to block the exchange of personal information, and our trained teams and automated tools continuously monitor communications to detect and remove harmful content,” a spokesperson said.
