A new analysis of tourism data highlights that the economic impact of tourism in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire increased to £1.2 billion in 2024 compared to the previous year and increased by 2% in 2023.

The latest figures from independent research conducted by Global Tourism Solutions (GTS) using the Scottish Tourism Economic Activity Monitor (STEAM) model show the upward trajectory of the tourism sector in the region. Growth was driven by visitors up to 3.7 m staying overnight in 2024.

This is also a boost daily as 2.59 million visitors experience quality tourism and hospitality products and experiences from the region.

Information was collected from occupancy data and visitor attraction data as well as intelligence from festival and event organizers, venues and transport providers to create a consolidated overview of activities in the region last year.

Visitaberdeenshire CEO Chris Foy said: “The appeal of the natural environment, cultural heritage and welcoming community is supported by the high quality and rich facilities that meet hotels and venues, and even innovative visitors experiences.

“We’re looking forward to seeing you in the future,” said Jennifer Craw MBE, CEO of Opportunity North East (1). “We have invested heavily in sector growth over the past nine years, including core funding for Visitaberdeenshire and the North East Adventure Tourism Project, supporting economic diversification. Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.”

“The Council continues to provide critical infrastructure, including over £200 million for city centres, Beach Master Plans and other projects, and is helping to provide other projects through the Council’s General Fund Capital Program to secure key events.
