TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — The man accused of fatally shooting two people and injuring six people in a shooting at Florida State University last month, was released from Tallahassee Hospital on Monday and charged with murder, authorities said.

He was then transferred to a nearby Wakula County jail. This is the standard procedure when an inmate is associated with a Leon County deputy.

Ikner, Sheriff’s vice sonarrived on campus on April 17th and stayed near a parking garage before entering and leaving the buildings and green space, firing handguns just before lunch, police said.

In about four minutes, officers confronted Ichner, a Florida political science student, and said he shot and killed him, according to Tallahassee police.

Police believe Ichner used a former service weapon belonging to his stepmother, a 18-year veteran of the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, officials said. In recent years she has worked as a resource officer for a junior high school, and was an employee of this month’s department a year ago in March. After the shooting, she requested personal leave, was allowed and was reassigned from her post at school.

Authorities have not yet revealed the motive for the shooting.

Online prison and court records on Monday did not list Ichner’s lawyers. Multiple attempts to contact his family after the shooting was unanswered.
