Former first lady Michelle Obama paid tribute to her late mother, Marian Robinson, at the Barack Obama Presidential Center in Chicago on Tuesday night wearing a mid-calf skirt printed with vintage photographs.
The image showed Robinson staring at the camera wearing circular statement earrings and a bandana-print blouse buttoned up at the top button. Her hair was styled into a curly pixie cut that barely touched her forehead.

Next to former President Barack Obama, the former first lady tucked a dark brown, short-sleeved sweater into a custom Acne Studios fall/winter 2026 pencil skirt, securing the crease with a thin black belt. For accessories, I chose to add a glamorous touch from Spinelli Kilcolin Solarium Jewelry. On her feet, she chose chocolate Saint Laurent slingback patent pumps with a sharp stiletto heel. Inspired by Meredith Koop, this aesthetic settled somewhere between ivy and avant-garde, with printed skirts giving it a formal edge.

The runway also offered tan skirts in shades of dark heather gray, styled with matching brown sweaters and long-sleeve turtlenecks. Faded portraits were a recurring motif within the collection, appearing on several garments, including a draped, balloon-sleeved dress. These faces were taken by photographer Paul Kooiker and borrowed from his show at the Acne Gallery space at the Palais Royal. Creative director Jonny Johansson also took an equestrian approach, drawing inspiration from his favorite show, The Crown, to design riding suits, box-pleated skirts, and silk scarves that capture the house’s idiosyncratic angst. “I really want to feel safe and secure and make something traditional for us modern,” Johansson told WWD at the time.

The former first lady has regularly demonstrated her appreciation for the artistry of high fashion, wearing countless pieces by celebrities such as Naeem Khan, Carolina Herrera, Michael Kors, Jason Wu, Prabal Gurung, and Balenciaga, as well as emerging designers such as Cuban-American artist Isabel Toledo, which she frequently wore during her time in the White House. But she’s not above high street fashion. Obama is known to love items from J.Crew and H&M.
