Tallahassee, Florida (AP) – a Filmed on Florida State University campus Police left multiple victims on Thursday and detained the suspect. A person familiar with the issue told The Associated Press.
The university issued an active shooter alert at noon near the Student Union.
A spokesperson for Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare said at least six people have been hospitalized, including one in a critical condition. The other patients were in serious condition, the spokesman said. The extent of the victim’s injuries was not immediately known.
There were no additional details about those in custody. The person was not permitted to publicly discuss details of the ongoing investigation and spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

Hundreds of students have moved away from the student union’s direction. Students are glued to their mobile phones and are visibly emotional.

Ambulances, fire trucks and patrol vehicles from several law enforcement rushed towards campus. Attorney General Pam Bondy said in a social media post that the Justice Department was in contact with FBI agents who were on the scene. President Donald Trump said he was “fully explained” by his oval office.
The university has instructed students and faculty to find shelter and awaits further instructions. Florida has cancelled all scheduled class and university events on Thursday. All exercise events have been cancelled until Sunday.
“Be prepared to stay away from all doors and windows and take additional protection measures,” Alert said.
The university told the community to “be careful about the details” on its social media accounts.
Where is Florida?
Founded in 1851, Florida is one of Florida’s 12 public universities, with its main campus in Tallahassee, just minutes from the state Capitol building. According to the school’s 2024 fact sheet, approximately 44,300 students are enrolled at the university.
The campus is located a few miles (kilometers) from the interstate and crosses the northernmost tip of the state from east to west. Tallahassee’s Rolling Hill Country is in stark contrast to the rest of Florida’s mostly flat landscape.
Florida A&M University is also located in the state’s capital, Tallahassee.
