The Trump administration has launched an investigation into Stanford University’s admissions policy and three campuses within the University of California system, including UC Berkeley, UCLA and UC Irvine, the Justice Department said Thursday.

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondy has directed the Bureau’s Civil Rights Division to investigate whether school policies comply with the 2023 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that ended positive action on university admissions, the department said in a statement.

Since taking office in January, President Donald Trump has sought to dismantle the diversity, equity and inclusion program that his administration says excludes white and Asian American students. The administration warns schools and universities that could lose federal money more than “racial-based preferences” in all aspects of admission, employment, scholarships and campus life.

The latest action comes after the U.S. Department of Education said it was investigating 52 universities earlier this month on racism allegations. Most of those schools were said to be due to partnerships with those research. Nonprofit organizations It is intended to help students of color to complete their PhD.

“President Trump and I are dedicated to ending illegal discrimination and restoring merit-based opportunities across the country,” Bondy said in a statement. “Every student in America deserves to be judged only on the basis of hard work, intelligence and personality, not on skin color.”

Stanford said in a statement Thursday that after the Supreme Court ruling, it took immediate steps to ensure that the admission process complies with the law.

“We remain committed to fulfilling our obligations under the law,” the statement said, adding that the school had not been specifically said why it was being investigated. “We don’t have any details about today’s announcement, but we look forward to learning more about their concerns and responding to departmental questions.”

The University of California did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Separately, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said it is investigating “California’s major medical schools” for alleged racism in hospitalizations. The statement did not name the school. The lawsuit said it responded to information received by the Civil Rights Office. It gave no details.

Trump administration We have also started an investigation Thursday to the California Department of Education. The problem is the law that the district cannot notify teachers and staff members of the parents if a student changes gender identity at a school.
