WASHINGTON (AP) — While Cornell University’s federal funds have frozen over $1 billion and Northwestern University’s roughly $790 million, the government is investigating that both schools have alleged civil rights violations, the White House said.

This is part of the broader driving force for using government funds to adhere to major academic institutions to the President Donald Trump political agenda. The White House confirmed that funds would be suspended late Tuesday night, but did not provide any further details on what it would involve or how the school grants were affected.

The move has previously cut money to schools as the Trump administration has increasingly begun using government grant funds as spigots to attempt and impact campus policies. Columbia University and University of Pennsylvania.
