The US government has announced a new AI action plan in line with President Trump’s January executive order, “Removing barriers to AI’s American leadership.”
The AI Action Plan forms part of the US goals to guide a new golden age of economic competitiveness and national security.
The plan identifies more than 90 federal policy measures across three pillars. It is leading the way in the accelerated innovation, the creation of American AI infrastructure, and the Trump administration takes on international diplomacy and security in the coming weeks and months.
This is further divided from Biden management policies to support restrictions on AI chip exports and to ensure that AI is not used to spread misinformation.
Important policies for AI Action Plans
Despite the transition from previous administrations, the new plan has limitations for AI developers who build “ideological biases” into their systems, which have not yet been defined by administrators.
The AI Action Plan’s central policy includes the removal of federal regulations that the administration believes will hinder AI development, promote the expansion of AI data centers, and prevent the export of American AI technology around the world.
Other important policies include:
American AI Export: Commercial and State Departments partner with the industry to provide secure, full stack AI export packages that include hardware, models, software, applications and standards to American friends and allies around the world. Enable innovation and adoption: Requires private sector input regarding the rules to remove burdensome federal regulations that hinder the development and deployment of AI. Supporting free speech in frontier models: Update federal procurement guidelines to ensure that governments contract only with large frontier language model developers, ensuring that systems are free from objective, top-down ideological bias.
Three important presidential orders for AI
The AI Action Plan includes three new executive orders signed by the President, designed to quickly track approvals for data center construction, promote international exports of AI models, demand that governments be ideologically neutral and refrain from promoting the so-called “awakening” principles.
Trump discussed plans and new orders in his speech at Wednesday’s event entitled “AI Race Winning.”
He states: “From now on, the US government will only deal with AI that pursues truth, fairness and strict equity.
“We must also have a single federal standard, not the 50 states that regulate this future industry.”
Asserts US domination in the AI sector
The United States must remain the dominant force of artificial intelligence to promote prosperity and protect its economic and national security.
These policy goals set expectations to ensure that the US sets gold standards for technology around the world, and the world continues to continue with American technology.
The White House Director of Science and Technology Policy Michael Kratzos explained: “The American AI Action Plan illustrates the decisive course to solidify US domination in artificial intelligence. President Trump prioritized AI as the basis for American innovation, promoting a new era of American leadership in science and technology and global impact.
“This plan turbocharges our innovation capabilities, promotes the federal government’s efforts to build cutting-edge infrastructure, and lead the world, ensuring that American workers and families thrive in the age of AI. We are moving with urgency to make this vision a reality.”
