Ukevents is urging the government to implement a national event strategy to accommodate government spending reviews over the past few weeks.

Ukevents offers a careful welcome to reviews and recognizes the development of some encouragement, particularly for the growth of the sport and the region. However, great opportunities continue to be overlooked for the wider event sector.

The organization welcomes positive signals for investment in major sporting events. These events rely heavily on the expertise of professional event organizers and event equipment suppliers, and the positive signals of meetings and conferences with increased funding for science and health.

The group also praised the increase in funding for science and health, recognising that both sectors will contribute significantly to the UK conference and exhibition calendar, and showcasing innovation and research at the national and international stages.

The organization highlighted the potential for undeveloped as a broad opportunity within the event sector, which is not yet fully recognized as growing the creative industry and the visitor economy and being fully aligned with future industrial strategies.

Regional growth and increased connectivity are also welcomed by ukevents. Events can play a pivotal role in providing government leveling agendas through work, tourism, regeneration and better transport and digital infrastructure, supporting event activities across the UK.

The group focuses on the benefits between the sectors of events, especially when business, cultural and sports programs intersect to enhance economic and social outcomes. However, it raised concerns about the slow progress of the Creative Industries growth program despite early consultations, sought clearer visibility into the outcome and timeline.

Finally, Ukevents reiterated his active involvement in creating a visitor economic growth strategy with a special focus on international visits and tourism through local tourism driving and events. It also welcomed the continued presence of the cultural, media and sports sectors, fostering more combined collaboration across the creative, cultural and visitor economic agenda. As governments complete their industrial strategy, Ukevents calls for a clear commitment to recognize business events as a strategic factor for growth and innovation.

Following its spending review, Ukevents is urging DCMS to significantly increase funding for the Visitbritain Business Events Growth Program.

Chairman Glenn Bowdin also calls for the government to work with ukevents to shape the national event strategy. He said: “The government recognizes the success of events, but this has been framed primarily through the lens of sports. While sports may be the visible tip of the iceberg, the broader event industry, spanning culture, business, education and innovation, deserves equal strategic awareness.

He added: “The national event strategy has been behind for a long time. It’s time for the government to cast the internet more widely and reach its full potential in the UK’s events sector.”
