The US President and Kiev are proposing that rare earth transactions can compensate Washington for aid.

President Donald Trump suggests that Ukraine is trying to boast that he will quickly end the war, saying that he may “one day be Russian.”

Trump made comments in an interview Monday as he discussed the conflict three years ago, which was following the full-scale Russian invasion. Meanwhile, Kiev suggests that Washington is open to an agreement to see compensation for its ongoing military and financial aid.

“They may trade, they may not trade. They may one day be Russian, or they may not be Russian,” Trump said with US broadcaster Fox News. He said in an interview with

The US leader has also reiterated that he wants compensation for the aid the US has provided to Ukraine in the form of access to rare earth minerals.

“We’ll have all this money out there and I’ll say I want to get it back, and I want them to have something equivalent, like $500 million worth of rare earth. I said that,” Trump said. “And they essentially agreed to do that, so at least we don’t feel stupid.”

Andry Yelmack, chief of staff for Ukrainian President Voldy Meezelensky, told The Associated Press that Ukraine is “interested in working” with the United States on the deal.

Zelensky, who is scheduled to meet US Vice President JD Vance on Friday, is seeking strict security guarantees from Washington as part of his ceasefire agreement with Russia.

Kyiv fears that settlements that do not include harsh military commitments, such as NATO membership and the deployment of peacekeeping forces, will allow the Kremlin to be reorganized for new attacks and reorganized Reimm.

Trump proposed over the weekend that he would speak to Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, Moscow did not confirm that there was contact and instead repeated that the truce was only possible on that condition.

Against this backdrop, violence in Ukraine continues, with Russian troops moving forward at the forefront of eastern Ukraine.

Kyiv and Moscow also maintain a nearly nightly air barrage of air, particularly targeting energy infrastructure.

Overnight Tuesday, Russian drone and missile attacks struck a natural gas production facility in Ukraine’s central Poltava region.

Meanwhile, Russia reported a fire at an industrial facility in the Saratov region after the hit. Ukraine claimed it had hit an oil refinery.
