USDA suspends HBCU’s 1890 Scholars program for students

WASHINGTON (AP) – Federal scholarships aimed at boosting students from historically black universities and rural areas are pending.

Eligibility rules include being a US citizen with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and accepting one of the 19th Land Grant Colleges in 1890. Eligible students must also study agriculture or related fields and “demonstrate leadership and community service.”

In October, the department said it had set aside $19.2 million for the program. He said 94 students were awarded scholarships in 2024.
