Joseph Chuba has faced life in prison for the murder of six-year-old Wadi Alfayomi since Israel began the war with Gaza.
A US ju judge in Illinois was convicted of murder and hate crimes in October 2023 for stabbing a 6-year-old Palestinian teenager in the death of a 6-year-old Palestinian boy.
Joseph Chuba, 73, who was convicted Friday, faces life in prison for murder, in which prosecutors said he had seriously injured the boy’s mother, as stated in court records, urged by anti-Muslim hatred.
The attack on Wadi Alphayoumi, a boy’s murder, and his mother, Hanan Shaheen, was one of the fastest and worst hate crime cases in the United States since the start of Israel’s Gaza War.
Shaheen and his son’s landlord Chuba stabbed the boy 26 times using a military-style knife with a 7-inch (18 cm) sawtooth blade, authorities said. Shaheen suffered multiple stab wounds in an attack that took place in Plainfield Township, about 40 miles (64 km) southwest of Chicago.
At trial this week, Shaheen testified that Chuba had told her.
Michael Fitzgerald, a prosecutor at Will County State Lawyer’s Office, announced a recording of the 911 call at trial.
“The landlord is killing me and my baby,” Shaheen heard voiced.
Czuba previously pleaded not guilty and did not testify during the trial that began Tuesday.
“All our kids were targeted.”
The case has generated headlines all over the world and has hit the large, established Palestinian community in the Chicago area deeply.
“We, parents, Arab or Palestinian, all of us, Muslims, all of us have seen our children die in Wadi Alphayoomi.
“It just happened to be Wadi Alphayomi. When he was targeted, all our children were targeted. All Muslims were targeted. [Czuba] “All Muslims must die,” he cried. ”
Abedoyub, executive director of the American and Arab Anti-Discrimination Commission (ADC), said the verdict provides a measure of justice to Waddy’s families and “sends a clear message that there is no place here for violence fueled by hatred.”
“We will never accept and will never forget that a six-year-old lost his life due to dangerous anti-Palestinian rhetoric,” he said.
Other US incidents surrounding anti-Arab bias include the owner’s death of a 3-year-old Palestinian American girl in Texas, the stab wounds of a Palestinian American man in Texas, the be-hitting of a Muslim man in New York, the violent mob attacks against pro-Palestinian protesters in California, and the attacks of two Israeli visitors, the gunman in Palace Street.
