What to expect at Openai’s Devday 2025 and how to see it

Openai is preparing to hold its third annual developer conference, Devday 2025, on Monday. More than 1,500 people will be convened in Fort Mason, San Francisco for the “biggest event” of opening, with an announcement, keynote speeches from Openai executives and a fireplace chat between CEO Sam Altman and longtime Apple designer Jony Ive.

From that sound, Devday 2025 is becoming a grand exhibition of open domination in Silicon Valley against giants such as Apple, Google and Meta. Openai is currently building an AI device, social media app, and an AI-powered browser that uses Chrome. In other words, Openai is doing much more than it did in the first December of 2023 when it mostly had an API business where ChatGpt and developers could access the models.

At the same time, Openai faces more competition than ever before to beat the developers.

Last year, humanity and Google’s AI models have become increasingly capable of coding tasks and web design. Openai is forced to release better AI models at lower prices to stay in the race. In the background, Meta has built an impressive roster of AI talents for new group Meta Superintelligence Labs.

Openai shared its vision for the market for AI agents called the GPT Store, with new AI models, GPT-4 Turbo and Altman, on the first December of 2023. Altman was expelled as CEO a few days later. I’m back after a dramatic weekend negotiations. In 2024, Openai responded with a more modest meeting, and announced meaningful developer upgrades such as the APIs for AI Voice applications, but not many others.

Nothing has been confirmed to be released on December 2025, and it has sparked many rumors. Perhaps Openai will eventually announce an AI-powered browser that is working on, or it may offer updates to the building’s AI devices along with IVE and former Apple executives. It could also be that there are updates related to the GPT store, or new products that allow developers to build agent workflows.

TechCrunch is located on the ground in San Francisco and covers the event live, so you can see all the news here. Here’s what you need to know about Openai’s Devday and how to see it:

Devthay 2025 will kick off at 10am on October 6th, with Altman’s opening keynotes to announce “announcements, live demos and visions of how developers can rebuild the future with AI.” The keynote speech lasts approximately an hour and will be streamed live on Openai’s YouTube page.

This is the only event that will be streamed live for remote participants.

In-person attendees will have on-stage presentations and consultations from Cursor CEO Michael Truell, San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie and Andreesen Horowitz investment partner Kimberly Tan. Several Openai employees also give speeches about their work, including model behavior researcher Laurentia Romaniuk and Codex’s Reed Alexander Ebilikos.

Also, there should be a series of side shows with AI in the Devday 2025. One of them is “Sora Cinema.” It is said to be a “cozy mini sweater with Popcorn” featuring a short film produced by Openai’s video model Sora. There should also be a phone booth where the famous computer scientist Alan Turing’s “living portrait” says “it’s coming back.”

In the late afternoon there will be two major events that close out the Devday. These last two events will not be livestreamed, but will be posted to YouTube later in the day.

At 3:15pm there will be a “Union Developer Status” with Openai Presidents Greg Brockman and Olivier Goodement, who lead the products of the Openai platform. Two Openai executives will “demote new features” and share what’s going on with the developers.

Finally, at 4:15pm, Altman and Ive offer a “closed fireside chat” to discuss “building crafts of the Ai era.” The conversation lasts about 45 minutes.
