Philadelphia (AP) – In West Philadelphia, where he was born and raised, there are now streets Will Smith method.
Philadelphia Mayor Sherrell Parker and city leaders praised him Oscar and Grammy winners On Wednesday, the street next to Smith’s old high school was renamed.
“Philly, I love you. I belong to you. You belong to me,” Smith said at a ceremony along part of 59th Avenue, which now has his name.
He remembered learning the value of hard work and education from his mother and father before hitting it big as an actor or rapper.
“No one can ride easily,” he said. “That was one of the things these streets in Philadelphia taught me. There’s nothing wrong with working on a difficult day.”
Among those who came to see him was a former teacher who first called him “Prince Charming.” It’s been slightly changed to the 1990s TV show “The Frish of Bel-Air.”
“The name ‘Fresh Prince’ was built in that building,” Smith said. “It was hip hop slang, so I added ‘fresh’. ”
Smith releases him Fifth studio album “Based on a true story” on friday. This is his first music project in 20 years since “Lost and Found.”
He won Grammy Awards for “Summer,” “Black,” “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It,” and “Only My Parents Don’t Understand.” He also stars in the films Bad Boys, Men in Black and King Richard.
