A new report from the nonprofit found that the proportion of women and nonbinary individuals in the partner roles of all major companies has doubled in the past few years despite market headwinds. Rays CEO Page Hendrix Buckner chatted with TechCrunch’s Dominic-Madori Davis about his push for the equity shift this week.

“It has two pieces,” she said of her progress for women. She said that much of it has to do with companies that aim to become more efficient and promote the best people inside the company internally. The second part is that companies recognize the benefits of having a more diverse voice in their decision-making table. “One person, people got to the door, and second, people could play,” she continued.

But there’s still a lot to do. Compensation is still a problem. Also, megafers that manage more than $10 billion in assets do not have many women in the role of those top partners.

“It takes time for a change,” she said.

Luckily, the good news appears to be already underway.
