Delhi Capitals women hope to end their struggles in the WPL Finals as they will face Mumbai Indian women in the 2025 crown in Mumbai on Saturday.
Delhi has reached the third consecutive final, but they have not yet lifted the trophy and are facing a team that defeated them in the Mumbai Indians in the first final of 2023.
Al Jazeera will be watching the final of the third edition of the tournament.
How did the team reach the WPL Finals?
The Delhi Capitals headed the group stage for the Mumbai Indians, who lost their final match in a 11-run loss by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Monday.
As a result, Mumbai forced the Eliminator, who has the third-place Gujarat giant on Thursday.
A 47-run victory was recorded as Haley Matthews destroyed 77 totaling 213-4.
Who was the previous WPL winner?
The Mumbai Indians defeated Delhi with seven wickets in the final of the 2023 WPL’s first edition.
Royal Challengers Bangalore won the championship last season with an eight-wicket victory.
Can the Delhi Capitals end the final jinx?
Former Australian captain Meg Lanning has led Delhi as he believes the formation of the Capitals’ WPL and vice captain will help her skipper’s victory mentality and unwavering optimism.
“Meg is the one who wants to win every game. But at the same time, she has a clear amount of what she’s looking for. India’s Jemima Rodriguez spoke about the winner of the seventh World Cup.
“She makes it clear what she wants to do and what she wants from this team and makes sure she brings everyone along to do that, and I think it will help us become a successful team.
“What I like about Meg is that this is what I want to add to myself… She’s calm and aggressive at the same time. And as a leader, it’s a very important quality.”

“Of all three seasons, I think we’re the most proud of the year, because it wasn’t easy, but we’ve picked up ourselves and found a way to come to the top.”
What is the possibility that Mumbai will overcome Delhi?
Delhi may have been the top of the group this year, but Mumbai has already won one WPL title. Delhi has a winning streak that lost in the finals in Saturday’s match.

“When you see a captain like HarmanPreet, [Kaur]even young players like Sanskriti Gupta who came this year could have made a huge impact. ”
How did WPL reach the final in Mumbai?

Is Impact Players allowed in WPL?
Unlike the Indian Premier League (IPL), the WPL does not allow alternative players to be brought into the team during a match to make an impact.
Rodriguez of Delhi hopes this remains the case. “I’m not a huge fan of impact players [rule] Because I am someone who loves the rules I already have,” she said.
“It’s unfair to both bowlers and bowlers.
Was WPL successful?
According to West Indies White-Ball Captain and Mumbai all-arounder Hayley Matthews, the Twenty20 Leagues have transformed women’s cricket, which once relied on general support for survival, into a fascinating sight.
The 26-year-old, who gained fame from the West Indies’ 2016 T20 World Cup victory, said that T20 leagues like the WPL have promoted global exposure and helped develop women’s games.
“Once upon a time, I felt that women’s cricket was probably “come to watch the game to support women,” but now I feel like I have a fun product.
“Just playing these leagues, getting all the games aired, having the opportunity to see and support people, and naturally help the game grow.
“There are a lot of opportunities for women to grow in cricket. I think competition like WPL gives the game a platform to grow. It introduces people to the game… it shows the level of skill we have in women’s cricket.”
