Xai pays $300 million to pay Telegram and integrates Grok into the chat app

Telegram attacked Elon Musk’s partnership with AI company Xai, distributing the latter chatbot Grok via Telegram, and integrated it into the apps available on the chat app platform for a year.

Xai will pay $300 million in cash and stocks to the chat app as part of the transaction, Telegram CEO Pavel Durov said Tuesday.

Durov said Telegram will earn 50% of revenue from Xai subscriptions purchased through the app.

Earlier this year, Xai made GROK chatbot available to premium Telegram users. It appears that Grok is now available to all users.

The video that Durov posted to X suggests that Grok can be pinned over in-app chats, and users can also ask Grok questions from the search bar. In particular, Meta has integrated Meta AI into the search bar on Instagram and WhatsApp.

This video also shows you can use Grok to write suggestions, summarise chats, links, documents, and create stickers. Grok will probably also help answer corporate questions, helping with moderation.

Note: This story was revised to clarify that Xai is paying Telegram $300 million to distribute Grok.
