At a YouTube live event on Tuesday, the company unveiled a new generation AI tool for shorts creators. YouTube brings a custom version of Google’s text-to-video generation AI model to shorts, along with a new remix tool, “edit with AI” feature and more.

A custom version of VEO 3 called Veo 3 Fast produces low latency output at 480p, making it easy to create video clips, YouTube says. And now users can do so with sound for the first time.

This update is being rolled out in the US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. YouTube plans to expand its functionality to more regions in the future.

YouTube brings new VEO features to the shorts, including the ability to apply video-to-image movements. For example, you can animate still images by creating a dance for the video person. The company says this is possible through technology that captures and transfers movements from one subject to another.

Creators can now use VEO to apply different styles to videos such as pop art and origami. Additionally, creators can now add text and props objects in text descriptions.

These new features will be rolled out in the coming months.

When it comes to the new remix tool, creators can turn the dialogue from eligible videos to catchy soundtracks of other shorts.

“As the world’s largest creative playground, YouTube is where trends can be created and inspirational. Imagine listening to a line of dialogue that will spark funny phrases, memorable quotes, or ideas you want to remix into new sounds. “With a new speech from the Song To Song Remixing tool, you can do just that.”

YouTube points out that this feature uses Google’s AI Music Model Lyria 2 to create soundtracks. Creators can add their own vibe to the song, such as “Chill,” “Dancable,” and “Fun.”

The company plans to test the feature soon and roll it out to more US creators in the coming weeks.

New editing using AI features allows creators to turn raw footage into their first draft. Convert live camera roll footage into your first draft by finding and placing the best moments and adding music and transitions. You can also add narration in English or Hindi that will allow you to respond to what’s going on in the video. The idea behind this feature is to give creators a starting point for shorts, YouTube says.

YouTube is experimenting with editing using AI with shorts and the YouTube Create app, expanding its functionality in select markets over the coming weeks.
