Zendaya goes vintage with Giorgio Armani at ‘Spider-Man’ Rome premiere

Zendaya mixed her high-fashion sensibilities with a retro Giorgio Armani dress at the Spider-Man: Brand New Day premiere in Rome on Tuesday night with her husband and co-star Tom Holland.

The Emmy Award-winning “Euphoria” star wore a dress from the late Italian designer’s spring 1990 ready-to-wear collection. The dress is made from taupe fabric with sheer overlays, including a strapless bodice and flowing skirt.

But the black overlay brought an element of method dressing to the forefront of stylist Law Roach’s vision for Zendaya’s red carpet outfit. Throughout the sheer black fabric, crystallized embellishments with a spider web pattern cascade into sheer overlays.

Red-brown gemstones were also added to the fabric to create visual contrast and further enhance the sartorial tension to enhance the look. Small insect-inspired jewels were also added near the round neckline and at the hips of the sleeveless design.

Since the dress is so sparkly, Zendaya cut back on other accessories. The actress wore yellow gold Elsa Peretti snake earrings from Tiffany & Co. to further accentuate her 1920s-style “vixie” look. She also wore a diamond-set platinum wingwide ring from Tiffany & Co.’s Bird on a Rock. The makeup included highlights such as bold brows, smokey eyes, and a neutral glossy lip.

Under Roach’s direction, Zendaya became a regular model on the Method Dressing press tour. The actress memorably wore several tennis-inspired pieces while promoting 2024’s Challengers, as well as looks from Dune and Dune Part 2 that recalled the film’s dystopian desert setting.

Embroidery, exoticism and tailoring influenced by classic design codes define Armani’s spring 1990 ready-to-wear collection, a true product of the transition period between 80s excess and 90s minimalism. Armani passed away on September 4, 2025 in Milan at the age of 91.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day follows Holland’s Spider-Man, Peter Parker, as he travels through a forgotten world and battles new villains who threaten the people he loves. The film will be released in theaters on July 31st.
