Zoom launches cross-application AI Note Taker, AI Avatars and more with the latest update

On Wednesday, Zoom on, we announced new products at the Zoomtopia Conference. These include upgraded AI companions that work throughout the meeting app, the ability to add your own notes, meeting scheduling with AI, and user-like AI avatars. With these features, the company aims to compete with vertical conference startups and productivity suites.

For a long time, the company has provided AI bots that can record and transfer Zoom meetings. However, cross-application conferencing notables such as AI, Otter, Fireflies, Granola, and Circleback have made great strides. To tackle that, Zoom has acquired the ability to do AI companion work with other platforms such as Meet and Microsoft teams, taking notes during in-person meetings.

The company takes pages from granola books, letting users write down their notes during a meeting, then extend and configure AI later. Zoom also adds cross-platform search, allowing users to retrieve information from across Google and Microsoft platforms.

New calendar-related features are also approaching. Through AI companions, the company allows users to find time slots that work for all participants. Additionally, you can suggest meetings that allow you to skip new “free my time” requests. (In particular, the calendar tool ClokcWise launched a similar tool last year to resolve meeting conflicts.)

The company is also developing proactive meeting recommendations, including proposed tasks and agenda items to meet the PREP and group AI assistants.

Zoom will also introduce Photorealistic Avatars to the platform. Earlier this year, the company’s CEO, Eric Yuan, used one on his quarterly phone call. Avatars hold back your actions with videos and are useful when you’re not “camera-ready,” Zoom said. However, there is a deep risk to misuse personas, where you can see corporate IT departments rushing to turn them off.

This feature is expected to be available to consumers by the end of the year.

This update will showcase the ability for hosts to use Zoom Clips, their asynchronous video tools, and AI avatars to welcome people in the waiting room and explain the purpose of the meeting.

AI also supports new live translation features.

Additionally, Zoom launches an upgraded web interface to showcase AI companions more prominently, adding AI-powered features such as draft draft writing assistant and deep search capabilities.

Additionally, Zoom supports Model Context Protocol (MCP), allowing for the creation of custom AI agents with higher bitrate and 60fps support for zoom meetings, as well as new zoom video management tools to manage video assets.
