Arsenal will try to maintain Manchester United’s Premier League challenge in one of English football’s most intense matchups.

The team was locked together as title rivals in the 1990s and early 2000s before the Gunners’ competitiveness faded. United received a similar slide after Alex Ferguson left in 2013. This was the last time the Red Devils won the league title.

However, Mikel Arteta’s weapon has finished second in the league in the last two seasons, and is aiming to get one better this year. Al Jazeera will take a closer look at Sunday’s match at Old Trafford.

Amorim expects more pressure than Arteta has endured

Manchester United manager Reuben Amorim doesn’t think he’ll have time to turn things around at Old Trafford on Sunday, just like his opposite numbers to bring back Arsenal’s fortunes.

The 40-year-old Portuguese has struggled since taking over the Eric 10 hug at Old Trafford in November, and since the Red Devils dropped out at the table on the 14th and out of both domestic cup competitions.

The Europa League is the only remaining route to silverware, and realistically, they have achieved continental qualification on the threadbear side as they prepare to take on second place Arsenal in the Premier League, and have won a 7-1 Champions League victory at PSV Eindhoven.

Arteta once again puts the gunners into force once more with decisions to pull the team, including removing the senior players after being appointed later in 2019.

Amorim was asked if he saw similarities between Arteta’s position and his work at United. There’s no time Arteta had. I feel that. It’s a different club.

“So we need to survive with the players on Sundays and during these games.

“It’s another club. On the other hand, the way Arteta handled it is inspiration for everyone. There’s no time like Arteta had.”

What are Man UTD’s recent forms?

United secured a 1-1 draw against Real Sociedad in the first game of the final 16 Thai Europa League.

Spain had no 11 first team players. There, they were victimized due to a lack of options in their 18 travel forces and recent efforts.

“We need to survive on Sunday,” said Amorim, who made the clear decision that United will be rebuilt in his playing style. “The team has been very tired over the last 20 minutes, and we have to prepare on Sunday and then think about this important game for Thursday’s season.

What was the planned protests on Sunday at Old Trafford?

The protest against United’s American owner Glaser is planned in the game by a 1958 fan group.

The American family took over United in 2003 and Jimratcliffe’s Ineos, who won the club’s football management in December 2023, has remained a significant minority shareholder while the Glazers remained a majority shareholder.

“I think it’s a really tough moment for anyone at our club,” Amorim said when asked about the planned protest. “It’s all at the same time. The only thing I can do, and our players can do, is to work and win.

“People have the right to protest, I think it’s good to do that. It’s part of our club. Everyone has a voice.

“But our job and my job is to improve our team and give something in this moment. They deserve it and are amazing.”

Arteta’s Arsenal doesn’t underestimate United

Arteta praised United’s character and legacy before Sunday’s clash, while highlighting the victory of his team at PSV Eindhoven as the key to maintaining momentum.

Arteta’s side will get the match in Premier League standings and start a Liverpool’s 13-point match round with six points from Nottingham Forest leading to third place.

Despite a 21-point lead over 14th-placed United, the Spaniards don’t take the Amorim side for granted.

“United’s history speaks for itself,” Arteta said at a press conference Friday. “They’re the player they have, the club. They have a legacy of overcoming difficult situations, and they are always dangerous opponents, especially if you’re most likely to expect it.

“Looking at their recent games, you can see the characters of their team. They’re more than able to put strong performances on the day and beat you.”

What is Arsenal’s recent form?

Gunner lost only two of his 11 games as he was eliminated from the FA Cup on January 12th in a penalty at Manchester United.

These two defeats take place on Arsenal’s final five fixtures, only two of which have won. However, Arteta says Arsenal will continue to have positive momentum from the stunning demolition of the PSV.

“What happened was that we were very effective in the box, and that’s a huge strength, especially in the Champions League, and that’s why we won the game at that margin,” he said.

“The way we do things lifted everyone up, but that’s sadly the past. It’s about what we’re doing today, preparing for tomorrow, trying to replicate another great performance on Sunday.

“but [against PSV]things came at the right time, at the right time, in the right way, but it’s very helpful, but all games are different. ”

Head-on

This is the 243rd meeting between the two clubs. Manchester United won 99 of these encounters, while Arsenal scored 89.

Gunner won the final four Premier League meetings, including a 2-0 victory in December in reverse fixtures this season.

However, that FA Cup won and United won the final battle.

Manchester United Team News

Amorim said he doesn’t think any of his injured players are right to face Arsenal after Harry Maguire and Manuel Ugarte joined Old Trafford’s long list of casualties this week.

Amado Diallo, Cobbie Mineu, Lisandro Martinez, Mason Mount and Luke Shaw have been suspended for a gunner’s visit, as well as Johnny Evans, Altai Bayindeal and Tom Heaton.

Arsenal team news

Miles Lewis Skelly returns from the suspension for the gunner.

Bucayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus, Kai Herberts and Tumeyas Tazilo are all not yet present through injuries.
