Kylian Mbappe’s first half brace was a 2-1 away victory over Villareal Move, with Madrid clearing three points above the rankings.
Kylian Mbappe scored twice, helping Real Madrid defeat Villarreal 2-1 and fight back to move Laliga’s standings up tentatively.
The hosts scored on Saturday in the seventh minute when Alex Baena’s corner was deflected by Aurelien Chouameni, allowing Juan Foyce to score from close range.
Real Madrid levelled 10 minutes later when Mbappe hit Brahim Diaz’s blocked shot, and the ball landed a nearby finish at his feet.
Six minutes later, the French International scored their 20th league goal of the season, latching to Lucas Vasquez’s ball and slotting home.
Mbappe had the opportunity to complete a hat-trick in the second half after latching to a Vinicius Jr’s through-ball, but the offside flag went up.
“It’s the last time I’ll play the game with a rest of 72 hours,” coach Carlo Ancelotti said, referring to his victory in a tough Champions League shootout against city rival Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.
Top of the 60-point table, the three, with the exception of second-placed Barcelona, will grab the match after the match against Osasuna was postponed last week and face third-placed Atletico on Sunday.
