The world champions will face Uruguay on March 21st and Brazil on March 25th.

Lionel Messi misses the Argentina qualifying match for the FIFA World Cup 2026 after feeling tense in the gro caliber in the Inter Miami victory over Atlanta over the weekend, his club confirmed.

Intermiami said in a statement Monday that Scan revealed that Messi suffered from “low-inducing adductor muscle” in Sunday’s 2-1 victory. The statement did not give a timeline for Messi’s return.

“His clinical progression and response to treatment will determine his availability for competition,” Inter said.

After missing three games at Inter earlier this month, the 37-year-old returned from the bench with a CONCACAF Champions Cup victory.

Messi was removed from the Argentine team due to a world champion clash with Uruguay on Friday, followed by a showdown with Brazil on March 25th.

Argentina will be able to qualify for next year’s tournament in the next two games.

They lead the 10-team South American qualifier group five points ahead of Montevid’s match against Uruguay.

The top six teams will compete directly in the World Cup in the US, Mexico and Canada.

After 12 rounds, Messi is the top scorer of the competition with six goals.

Argentina also does not have injured Roma striker Paulo Dybara and river board fullback Paulo Montiel.

Brazil doesn’t have 33-year-old Neymar, who suffered a thigh injury and had to postpone his return to the national team. Brazil is 5th, seven points behind Argentina.
