A Hamas spokesman has been killed in an Israeli air attack in northern Gaza, news outlets confirmed as Israeli troops continue their new attacks on the besieged enclave.
Hamas spokesman Abdel Latif Al-Kanoor was killed when Israeli fighters bombed a tent shelter in the north early Thursday morning.
Several more people were injured in the strike, including a child, according to Hind Khoudary, a correspondent in Gaza.
Khoudary said the attack was one of several that have been carried out by Israeli forces over recent time. This includes a strike at a home in the Safty area of Gaza city that killed six members of the same family.
On March 18, Israel suddenly ended its fragile two-month ceasefire as it resumed its intense bombing campaign and ground operations in Gaza. Israel subsequently killed hundreds of Palestinian civilians in order to put pressure on Hamas to release the remaining prisoners of war-torn enclaves.
A high-ranking Hamas official was also killed last week. On Sunday, a Israeli air attack at Nasser Hospital in Khan Eunice in southern Gaza killed five people, including Ismail Balkhum, the head of the finances and institutions within Hamas political office.
That same day, Israeli fighters also bombed tents that housed Palestinians who had been evacuated to Khan Eunice. Sarah al-Baldaweer, a prominent Hamas political leader and a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council, was killed in the attack along with his wife.
According to Reuters, both men are part of Hamas’ Politburo, a decision-making body of 20 people killed since the start of the war in late 2023, of which 11 were killed.
Hamas owns 59 of the approximately 250 prisoners of war that the group took during its attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023.

Gaza’s rising death toll comes amid weeks of slow, moving ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas. The mediators – the US, Qatar and Egypt – were unable to secure an extension to the first phase of the first phase contract, which expired on March 1.
Hamas accused Israel of deliberately putting ceasefire debate at stake, aimed at providing permanent purposes for the battle.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that Hamas had ordered Israeli forces to renew their attack on Gaza after rejecting a proposal to secure expansion.
On Wednesday, Netanyahu repeatedly poses threats that Israel would seize Gaza territory if Hamas fails to release the remaining prisoners.
