The media software maker and streaming app Plex released an updated version of the mobile app on Monday. The redesign includes new user experiences, reorganization navigation including providing dedicated spots for watchlists, and other changes aimed at making power user features easy to access not only streaming services but also power user features for PLEX customers using the company’s personal media management software.
The company says the mobile app will soon be followed by updates to the app for the TV platform.
Plex is probably best known for its software that allows you to organize your home media professional collections of movies, TV shows, home videos, music, photos, and more. However, the company has shifted in recent years to provide users with a one-stop shop to suit all media needs, combining free streaming television and movies with movie rentals and combining various discovery tools that help users find what they want to see in a fragmented streaming landscape.
The focus is on adding richer media, including film and show title artwork, when it comes to redesigning the Plex Mobile App. Other areas that are being tweaked include movie and show details pages, cast and crew profiles, and personal user profile pages.
Meanwhile, Persone Personal Home Media Pro’s Plex’s core user base allows you to personalize your experience by supporting a specific media library. This also has its own specific tabs.
One feature that can help you discover is Plex’s Universal Watchlist. Here you can save the items you want to watch from streaming services and from Plex’s free streaming services. This feature has become one of the more popular features of the app, which has given its own location in the app’s top-level navigation menu.
Small changes in this release require reorganization of other features, such as the User Menu. This feature allows you to update and manage information such as your friend list, streaming service selection, viewing history, and more.
After the version of this update of the TV platform is rolled out, Plex says it will add some more improvements and focus on making TV and mobile apps parity.
