Many journalists killed in Gaza than both World War, Vietnam, Yugoslavia and Afghanistan combined say it is the cost of the war project.

The war between Israel and Gaza has killed 232 journalists, the most deadly conflict for media workers ever recorded, according to a report on the costs of the Watson International Public Affairs War Project.

More journalists have been killed in Gaza than in both the World War, the Vietnam War, the War in Yugoslavia and the US War in Afghanistan, according to a report released Tuesday.

“It’s very simply the worst conflict ever for a reporter,” the cost of the war said.

The report said it was unclear how many Palestinian journalists in Gaza have targeted Israeli attacks and how many “there were the victims of Israeli artillery fire, like tens of thousands of fellow civilians.”

But by the end of 2024, it recorded 35 cases where Israeli military likely targeted and killed journalists for work, citing a Paris-based reporter (RSF).

Among them was Al Jazeera reporter Hamzadadu, who was killed when a missile attacked a vehicle traveling in southern Gaza on January 7, 2024. He was the fifth close relative of Wael Dadu, the director of Gaza in Al Jazeera, who was killed in an Israeli attack.

The most recent incident is Al Jazeera reporter Hosam Shabat, who was killed on March 24th when an Israeli strike hit his car.

Israeli forces accused Shabat of being a secret Hamas operative. The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) says Israel has repeatedly collected Palestinian journalists without evidence to justify the murder or abuse.

Following the costs of war projects, attacks on Gaza journalists whose foreign correspondents are not allowed to access have increased the tendency for local reporters to face the biggest risks, as access is barely accessible.

“Around the world, industrial economics, war violence and coordinated censorship campaigns are turning more conflict zones into news cemeteries, as Gaza is the most extreme example,” the report said.
