Nintendo announced new details on Wednesday about the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 Gaming Console, which will become the company’s first new console since the Nintendo Switch was introduced in 2017.

The Nintendo Switch 2 was released on June 5th and costs $450.

At release, the console will arrive on its own and as part of a bundle with Switch 2’s new game, Mario Kart World.

What will the Nintendo Switch 2 look like?

As the name suggests, Switch 2 is an upgrade to the Nintendo Switch. Based on the Switch’s existing design, it can be played on the go and at home on the TV screen.

The Switch 2 has a larger console with a larger screen (it still has a bezel on the edge) and a Haftier Joy-Con controller that also magnetically adheres to the sides of the screen. The device has a 1080p LCD screen and HDR that supports up to 120FPS. This can be a disappointment for users who are used to the upgraded OLED Nintendo Switch. However, the dock supports 4K.

The Nintendo Switch 2 has 256 GB of storage. This is eight times more storage than the previous model, and even casual gamers had to buy a MicroSD card to get more storage. It also supports only MicroSD Express cards for additional storage, a new kind of MicroSD card.

On the back of the device is a sturdy stand to keep the device upright. The body has USB-C charging ports at the top and bottom of the device. (The top seems to be targeting Nintendo Switch cameras, but it’s also a better return charging port.)

The classic colorway of the Nintendo Switch 2 is matte black with bright red and blue accents on each Joy-Con, which nods to the previous design, but in a refined format. But Nintendo is happy to bet that you can buy as much joy as you want in every colour you can imagine. And this time there is no drift issue.

The Joy-Cons also acts like a computer mouse for compatible games. The gyroscope feature gives players more control over motion control.

To make users familiar with the new Nintendo Switch 2 features, there is a welcome tour game that explains the device and costs money.

To siphon the deal, Nintendo Online now allows players to revisit GameCube games, along with Game Boy games, including the existing Nintendo 64 ports, Fire Emblem Pass from Radiance, Super Mario Striker, Luigi’s Mansion, and Pokemon XD. Some titles will be available on the day Switch 2 is released. Mamecube controllers, don’t worry. A C button is included.

What is the C button on the Nintendo Switch 2?

Many fans theorized about the C button that appears on Joy-Cons. This confirmed that Nintendo is GameChat today. This is a feature that allows you to communicate with friends while playing the game.

Your voice will be recognized by the microphones in the system and you will likely be able to hear people whether they are in a big room. Users can also share game screens within the console, even if they are playing different games. (Be careful, inconsistency.) However, in the demo, footage from another player’s game screen looked a bit choppy.

The Joy-Con on the right has another C button that can be used for other chat functions.

GameChat is available to all users until March 31, 2026, but you will need a paid online membership to use it. Nintendo simply stated that Parental Control is accessible via GameChat, but did not provide details.

Which hardware boots on the Nintendo Switch 2?

Nintendo has announced a Nintendo Switch camera that can connect to a console and transpose faces over games.

Nintendo offers an example of a camera where people play a Mario party together, with the player’s face appearing in a speech bubble next to the character, showing their reaction to the game. These new features are backwards compatible in certain games, including the Mario Party’s Jamboree.

Of course, there is also a Nintendo Switch 2 Pro controller with a new C button.

Which games are available on Nintendo Switch 2?

Initially, Nintendo has already confirmed that a new exclusive Mario Kart game will be released on the same day as Switch 2, known as Mario Kart World.

Mario Kart World appears to be an interpretation of Nintendo’s open world Mario game. There are large maps of different regions and courses, but in Free Drive mode you can run around anywhere without the threat of a red shell lurking in the corner.

Switch 2 supports games from other developers. Some are currently in development, and some have already been released. These include Hades II, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, Street Fighter, EA Sports FC, Madden NFL, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3+4, Yakuza 0, Borderlands 4, Enter The Gungeon 2, Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Silksong, and more. New chapters 3 and 4 of Deltarune will be available on the day Switch 2 is released.

There is also a new game in the Zelda Universe called Hyrule Warriors. This is the era of imprisonment, the prequel to the kingdom’s tears. It is scheduled to appear this winter.

Kirby fans will be delighted with the expected news of the Kirby Air Rider in 2025. The new Switch 2 game, Donkey Kong Bananza, will be released on July 17th, 2025.

Fromsoftware’s The Duskbloods will only be released in 2026 during the development of the Nintendo Switch 2.

Nintendo Switch 2 allows players to purchase upgrades to existing games for the Switch. There are also games with special Switch 2 versions, including Zelda’s Legend of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyonds, Pokémon Legends Za, Kirby and The Forgtonter Land, and Mario Party Jamboree. However, these upgrades are paid.
