The Chinese President visits three Southeast Asian countries amid global uncertainty.

Chinese national president Xi Jinping is taking a tour of three countries in Southeast Asia.

Faced with global uncertainty caused by the tariffs of 185 countries by President Donald Trump, XI is trying to plead the region by projecting China as a source of stability.

Southeast Asia is China’s largest trading partner. However, many countries, including Vietnam and Cambodia, also have strong business ties with the United States.

Some have already contacted the White House and hope to negotiate the transaction during the 90-day suspension on tariffs.

Experts say that by excluding China, Trump’s settlement measures aim to segregate it globally.

So, did Xi Jinping succeed in beating Vietnam, Malaysia and Cambodia leaders in opposition to Trump’s crippling trade barriers?

Can Beijing dodge Washington’s attempts to globally isolate Washington’s attempts using tariff negotiations?

Presenter: Dareen Abheeda

guest:

Shawn Lane – Director of China Market Research Group

Deborah Elms – Director of Trade Policy, Hinrich Foundation

Paolo von Schirach – President of the Institute of Global Policy
