WhatsApp announced on Wednesday it will launch a new feature that will allow users to add an additional layer of privacy to their chats. With the new “Advanced Chat Privacy” settings, you will not be able to export chat and auto-download media to your mobile phone.

This setting prevents users from mentioning meta AI or asking meta AI questions in messages.

The idea behind this feature is to give everyone in the group a sense of security that no one else takes what is shared and can’t do what they say outside of the chat.

It is worth noting that users can still take individual screenshots. WhatsApp plans to add more features to future advanced chat privacy and include more protection, which could prevent screenshots of features in future versions.

Meta-owned companies point out that this feature could be useful in situations where participants may not know each other well, but are discussing sensitive topics. For example, you could discuss health challenges in a support group or rule out meaningful community issues.

You can turn on the new settings by tapping on the chat name and selecting the Advanced Chat Privacy option.

This feature will be rolled out over the next few months and will be available for both chat and group purposes.

WhatsApp chat is already protected with end-to-end encryption, but advanced chat privacy offers users an additional level of privacy. New settings will join WhatsApp’s privacy-focused feature suite. This includes messages that disappear and chat locks.
