A study published by City Hall shows that London is the world leader when it comes to hosting sporting events. The report found that the sporting event contributed £230 million to London’s economy in 2024.

The City Hall report focused on five major sporting events in London in 2024.

Formula E London E-Prix at Excel London Jacksonville Jaguars NFL Games Two NFL Games at Wembley Stadium New York New York Mets vs London Stadium (MLB) Philadelphia Phillies (MLB) UEFA Champions League Finals Wembley Stadium between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortum Land

These events attracted approximately half a million fans and 2 million viewers from around the world. This is thanks to the popularity of the NLF, where the NLF in London attracted 200m viewers in 2024, raising a total of £600 million in audience spending since 2007.

To add, a poll from YouGov found that 62% of Londoners are proud to have major sporting events held in the city.

Sir Sadiq Khan commented: “London is the world’s sports capital and we are proud to have a strong track record of directing the largest and best international events in our big city.”
