Menendez was once a powerful person in US foreign policy, but was guilty of selling its influence to the Egyptian government.

Robert Menendez, a former US Senator, a representative of New Jersey, was claimed to be a 11 -year imprisonment for a bribery plan, including receiving a gold rod in exchange for Egypt.

On Wednesday, a sad testimony told the Manhattan Federal Court that he had lost all his beloved as a result of corruption, except for his wife’s support.

“It’s a punishment for those who spent his life with public services,” said the Democratic member Menendez, a Democratic member.

Menendez was once a powerful US political person and was the chairman of the Senate Diplomatic Committee.

He also gained a reputation as a frank supporter in Hawkish’s foreign policy. For example, he broke a democratic rank to oppose 2015 transactions, which restrict Iran’s nuclear plan in exchange for sanctions.

However, in July 2024, the court ruled that he had been acting as a foreign agent on behalf of the Egyptian government and was influenced by cash, gold, and even the Mercedes -Benz car.

“You were successful and powerful. You were at the top of our political system,” said the U.S. Judge Sydney Stein in a hearing hearing on Wednesday.

“Where on the way -I don’t know when it was -you lost the way and worked for public interests worked for your goods.”

Menendez sued the court of mercy, quoting his records in public services on his side.

“You really don’t know the man who is truly sentenced to be sentenced,” said Menendez in court.

“Your honor, I am far from the perfect man. I made something more than my share of mistakes and bad decisions,” he added. “I did much better than bad. I would like you to judge me in your honor in that context.”

The judge did not seem to be moving, and at some point Menendez said he had become a “corrupt politician.”

71 -year -old Menendez has been working in the Senate for 18 years. Before that, his political career suddenly stopped in 2024 in the lower house for 13 years.

In August, he resigned in a scandal in his corruption. This decision was made a month after he was convicted of 16 felony corruption.

“Menendez, who pledged the oath of the United States and New Jersey, has instead sold his expensive office in exchange for this BES storage,” he wrote in the court on January 9. Ta. They have been demanding a 15 -year prohibition.

At the beginning of Wednesday, Menendez’s two co -defendants, New Jersey’s businessman Fred Dave and Wal Hana, were declared in prison for more than seven years.

The corruption trial of Nadine’s wife, Mennendez, will begin on March 18.
